Belt conveyors

Belt conveyors are devices used for continuous transport, the purpose of which is to automate production processes. Due to their versatility and the ability to adapt to a specific industry, they are used in the transport of products, materials and raw materials of various structures, shapes and weights. Relatively simple design and high reliability have made belt conveyors an indispensable and often used element of internal transport.

Belt conveyors and their construction

The basis for the construction of the belt conveyor is the frame, which can be made of aluminum, galvanized steel, hot-dip or black steel, as well as acid-resistant or stainless steel. The material used for construction depends on the final application of the belt conveyor and its operating conditions.

Another element of the structure is the conveyor belt, which can be made of polyurethane, PVC, silicone, fabric-rubber belt, as well as plastic (modular belts).

Depending on the needs, a belt of different thickness and structure is used - smooth or non-slip, and in the case of modular belts with a specific pitch, i.e. micro or one of the standard ones, with the appropriate clearance of a given module or its absence.

An important component of the construction of the conveyor are also its components such as drive and return rollers, drums, modular wheels and drives responsible for the operation of the belt.

Application of belt conveyors

Belt conveyors are used to transport light products of small dimensions, both in bulk and in packaging, and heavy products such as loose materials and raw materials transported on landfills or construction sites. Belts are also used for sorting and separating goods in the so-called picking zones.

Conveyors have been used, among others, in such fields as:

  • mining,
  • power engineering,
  • metallurgy,
  • farms,
  • food industry plants,
  • reloading portals,
  • construction sites,
  • wood industry,
  • airports.

Types of belt conveyors

Depending on the needs and specifics of the production process as well as the planning of the route of transport of products and raw materials, in practice several types of belt conveyors can be distinguished:

  • simple belt conveyors - horizontal transport
  • ascending / diagonal belt conveyors - transport
  • Z-type belt conveyors
  • curved belt conveyors
  • arch conveyors

Conveyors can also be combined into working sections constituting a combination of several different types of conveyors, thus creating a specific production line strictly adapted to the needs and specificity of the production process.

Belt conveyors - equipment

In the case of diagonal transport (ascending or descending) and the transport of raw materials, belt conveyors equipped with side curtains (side waves), otherwise known as velcants or drivers, may be used. These solutions guarantee precision of work and minimization of possible material or raw material losses.
